Thanksgiving Day for Nurses

I told you ... 

I have to work Thanksgiving Day 

and I expect dinner to be ready when my shift is over!!

Nurse to Indian:    You catch the turkey.

Nurse  to Pilgrim:  You cook the turkey.

Nurse :   I will do the "dressing".

A nurse must always delegate tasks.

We are all about cultural awareness here, 

so you may smoke your peace pipe in the room. 

Your friend can heave his horse & buggy in the emergency department's parking lot. 

No problem at all. 

Yes, you both have to work on Thanksgiving!

Nurse: "so let me get this right, you two were playing pilgrims and Indians and the arrow is stuck WHERE again??"

Of COURSE... I'll take care of all the sick people while you spend time with your families! What else would I possibly want to do?! 

 

"Listen here Mr. Indian...there are NO exceptions for visiting hours. I can't help it if you claim you were here first."

No one eats until everyone wash their hands with soap and water!

The nurse says "Holiday? 

Well where's the food because my 5 minute break is almost over."

If I can get the doctors to get along with the nurses,

you two will be no problem!

"I can't say it enough, proper hand washing is the best way to avoid contracting communicable diseases."

We are taking all your land, giving you a lot of diseases, then we are having Thanksgiving dinner. Do you want to join us?

Alright here's the deal, your land will be taken away and you will be sent to a nursing home

Nurse to Indian No you have to take a prescription drug. Your natural cures aren't making the pharmaceutical companies any money why would you want to cure yourself when we can just treat you the rest of your life...

Pilgrim to nurse I am from the F.D.A and the A.M.A we have to label your dirt as a drug if you claim it cures a disease because only a drug can cure a disease,

Today I Saw a 😷Nurse

💝 😷TODAY I SAW A NURSE 😷 💝

Today I saw a nurse.
Dressed head to toe in blue
A mask, a gown, some gloves
Fearlessly working for me and you. 

 

She moved from bed to bed
Tirelessly doing all her checks
But even in the midst of chaos
Her kind words to me have great effects 

She said I’m here beside you 

Please do not despair
This helped calm me down as my lungs gasped for air 

No visitors can come to me
No flowers will pass my door.
For a virus has come for us
That makes our chest, throat and head sore 

Yet there is my little angel
Walking around the room
Looking after us all
And fighting off our gloom 

I watch her hold a patients hand
And guide them to the light
These nurses truly understand
They’re full of courage and might.

After each one passes
She softly hides her cries.
Then takes a little moment
And mourns anyone who dies. 

Today I saw a nurse
A mighty powerful person
A hero, an angel, a friend.
Helping people who have come to the end. 

Today I saw a nurse
She stayed a while beside me
That’s when I knew this awful curse
Was going to come find me. 

I thought of all my family outside
And those that I so love
And felt a hand grab mine
Through a blue powdered glove 

Today I saw a nurse
She was there at the very end
I felt the love pour from her
As she held me like a friend 

So do not worry friends and family
Stay safe at home and fight
For today I saw a nurse
And the light she had was bright

In addition to caring for your 50 patients, each bedside nurse will follow these regulations:

1. Daily sweep and mop the floors of your ward, dust the patient’s furniture and window sills.

2. Maintain an even temperature in your ward by bringing in a scuttle of coal for the day’s business.

3. Light is important to observe the patient’s condition. Therefore, each day fill kerosene lamps, clean chimneys and trim wicks.

 

4. The nurse’s notes are important in aiding your physician’s work. Make your pens carefully; you may whittle nibs to your individual taste.

5. Each nurse on day duty will report every day at 7 a.m. and leave at 8 p.m., except on the Sabbath, on which day she will be off from 12 noon to 2 p.m.

6. Graduate nurses in good standing with the director of nurses will be given an evening off each week for courting purposes, or two evenings a week if you go regularly to church.

7. Each nurse should lay aside from each payday a goodly sum of her earnings for her benefits during her declining years, so that she will not become a burden. For example, if you earn $30 a month, you should set aside $15.

8. Any nurse who smokes, uses liquor in any form, gets her hair done at a beauty shop or frequents dance halls will give the director of nurses good reason to suspect her worth, intentions and integrity.

9. The nurse who performs her labors [and] serves her patients and doctors faithfully and without fault for a period of five years will be given an increase by the hospital administration of five cents per day.

is National Nurses Week

Did you know that May 12th

is the birth date of Florence Nightingale?

Little did she know that she would later be  recognized as the founder of modern nursing!

Every year our nation dedicates a week to celebrates the hard work and dedication they give to their jobs and communities.

Being a nurse requires a person to successfully combine ever-changing education and training with the ability to relate to people from all walks of life.

They don’t just take our blood pressure, record our weight, and hand us medication…they comfort us when we’re frightened, offer encouragement, and oftentimes, they just listen.  It is not too much to say that these medicinal guardians are the heart and soul of our healthcare system.

Being a nurse is indeed a challenging position that takes 

a unique, patient, tireless, and courageous person to fill.

So remember to say thanks to a nurse on their week!

 History of National Nurses Week:

1953 Dorothy Sutherland of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare proposed to President Eisenhower to proclaim a "Nurses Day" to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to the Crimea.

 However the proclamation was never made. National Nurses Week was observed, regardless, in 1954 from October 11 - 16 thanks to a bill sponsored by Representative Frances P. Bolton.

A bill for a National Nurses Week was introduced in 1955 to Congress, but still, no action was taken.

1965 The International Council of Nurses (ICN) began celebrating "International Nurse Day". The House of Representatives presented a resolution in 1972 to President Nixon to proclaim "National Registered Nurse Day". 

Again, no action was taken. In January of 1974, ICN proclaims that May 12 (the birthday of Florence Nightingale) would be "International Nurse Day". In February, President Nixon proclaims National Nurse Week. 

After that, in 1978 New Jersey Governor Brendon Byrne declared May 6 as "National Nurses Day" for his state. 

 Then in1981, the ANA (American Nurses Association) rallied with other nurses associations to support a resolution initiated by nurses in New Mexico, through Congressman Manuel Lujan, to have May 6, 1982, established as "National Recognition Day for Nurses".

In February 1982, the ANA Board of Directors formally acknowledges May 6, 1982 as "National Nurses Day".

This action confirmed a joint resolution of the United States Congress designating May 6 as "National Recognition Day for Nurses".
On March 25th 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation officially declaring May 6, 1982 as "National Recognition Day for Nurses".

In 1990 The American Nursing Association Board of Directors expanded the recognition of nurses to a week-long celebration, declaring May 6 - 12, 1991 as National Nurses Week.

In 1993 the ANA Board of Directors designated May 6 - 12 as lasting dates to observe National Nurses Week.
