Passed away peacefully at NYC Hospital on Sunday morning
 with her family at her side.

 

Jo Gonzales worked at Cabrini for 35 years.
She worked on 13th floor
then in Hospice until she retired.

 

Her funeral service will be at 
Good Shepherd 
on Friday afternoon July 12th at 1 PM 
followed by a reception in the Undercroft.

About International Women's Day

Where: Everywhere

What:   International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday.
 

Why:   Suffragettes campaigned for women's right to vote. The word 'Suffragette' is derived from the word "suffrage" meaning the right to vote. International Women's Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women's success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed.

 Thousands of events are held around the world to celebrate women’s achievements, discuss issues and inspire women.

This year’s theme for IWD is “Equal access to education, training and science and technology:  Pathway to decent work for women.”

Here is to all those remarkable women who have been gentle yet strong, nurturing yet stood up for what was wrong, wise but not arrogant. Are you one of those amazing women?

American Museum of Natural History

Central Park West at 79th Street

The lonely little first building of New York's natural history museum, pictured in the early 1870s, placed on an unspectacular plot of land alongside Central Park called Manhattan Square. 
It was the former home to goat fields and small farms. To the left of the picture, you can see the development along Columbus Avenue.

Roy Chapman Andrews, the dashing adventurer who became one of the museum's most valuable explorers. It's rumored that Andrews was the inspiration for the character of Indiana Jones.
